The simple answer: it's our son's nickname! Bupbas shoes were named after our son, who was born in February of 2005. He is our inspiration, our test baby, and our model.
Bupba evolved as our son's nickname over time. 
When he was born in February 2005, everyone in our family - even our 4-year-old daughter - always referred to him as 'my baby'. That later morphed into mah-baba,and somehow as time went on began sounding more like mabupba. Now, he answers to Bupba more than he answers to his given name. While we know he will eventually grow out of being called Bupba, it seemed natural to name the soft-soled shoes which were first designed for him, after him. The name Bupbas has stuck as the name of our shoes.
